Calculating the cost of tile installation

Easiest way to get the cost of tile installation is to call a guy who does it and have him to come out and give you an estimate. But let’s assume you want to do it yourself or you wanna maybe even just to get an idea of how much it would cost you if you did.

So basically you want to know the square footage that you are laying a tile for, whether it is wall or floor, counter top, you calculate a square footage and you add about 5%. If it is really a bizarre shape, most of angles you may want to add 10%. Average cost of tiles themselves can go from eur8 per square meter to, you name it, 20-30 per square meter, ok, so you take your area plus 5% x the cost of that particular tile.
So that’s you tile cost.

Now to add to that, you need to have the under layer against to put the tile down on. If you need to do a substrate, a cement board or an easy board substrate then you have to calculate that. If it sits right on concrete, you just use your thin-set mortar, so you have to figure out how many bags of thin-set mortar you need, take that price. Once the tiles are down with the thinset mortar, then you have grout: the sanded grout, unsanded grout, different colours, the epoxy grout for shower floors, so you want again figure out the area you have and then the tile store person tells you how much grout you need for that amount, so then you got a cost of the grout.

Once the grout is in, you have to seal the grout, so you need some grout sealer, it come in little bottles or big bottles depending on how big the job size is and so you got your grout sealer cost.

So tiles, thin set, under layer, if you need it, grout, grout sealer and that’s the cost of your job.
